Hans-Martien ten Napel, Ph.D.

Senior Fellow

Hans-Martien ten Napel is a senior fellow at the CRCD and an Associate Professor of Constitutional and Administrative Law at Leiden University in the Netherlands. Throughout his career, he has focused on constitutional law, political legitimacy, political rights, and religious freedom.

He has held fellowships at the Minda de Gunzburg Center for European Studies at Harvard University (Cambridge, MA) as well as the Center of Theological Inquiry (Princeton, NJ). He is the editor of numerous volumes and the author of Constitutionalism, Democracy, and Religious Freedom: To Be Fully Human (Routledge).

Additionally, ten Napel is a member of the editorial board of the Tijdschrift voor Religie, Recht en Beleid (Journal for Religion, Law and Policy).
